Myopia of Learning Essay
Learning processes are powerful aids to intelligence but sometime they fail in coping with confusing experience and complicated problems because they do not take in consideration distant times, distant place and failures. The first step in overcoming these limitations is recognizing them and trying to avoid so they would not effect negatively in our performance. ââ¬Å"Experience is often a poor teacherâ⬠. Drawing conclusion from experiences is common in the business world but we tend to forget that these conclusions are merely just point of views of went wrong or not with a decision. Learning from experiences can make you fall in repetition if you see that this way of doing things did actually brought the desired outputs. By doing so we tend to forget that not every issue has the same circumstances and qualities so the same thing that worked in another issue may not work in this task. Details and causality are two main factors that sometimes can guide you in a performance that can be successful or a failure. Experiences from the history of the organization are narrowed also by the memory, conflict, turnover, and decentralization that make it difficult to be a reliable source of experience. That is why sometime experiences give a misleading route in coping with problems. Learning is a process and people can perform differently. There are people that acquire knowledge at different paces; some are what we call fast learner and slow ones. If we put these two persons in the same start, the fast learner would learn quickly and perform the activity faster than the other one. This means that the other person would never have the chance to do something and this will narrow its possibilities to progress and learn. In an organization you will find people that are inactive because they do not have the chance to be active so you will tend to rely more on the faster learner. The manager will help more in building a wall that will end up by firing the slow learner. Learning gives you a broad image of the short-run activities but it fails to give you a solution to the long-run ones. For example now we learn things that maybe in some years will be irrelevant due to the advancing of the technology and globalization, that change the markets every minute we learn. That means that you stay stuck in time, even though the market is developing and changing. You tend to apply exploitation when maybe it is exploration time and tend to apply exploration when you should apply exploitation. This imbalance is due to the learning process because you tend to apply the easiest and quickest way of dealing with an issue In conclusion learning is a process that has limitations when we have temporal myopia (short-run goals are being overestimate), spatial myopia (effect that occurs near to the learner) and failure myopia (we tend not to recognize failure and attribute them to luck). If we avoid these limitations and try not to be influenced by biases, learning can be rewarding. Our life is a journey of learning only that not every issue can be alike, so there is no perfect solution to all our problems but there are approaches from our experience that can be changed to suit a new issue. Preventing catheter-associated urinary tract infections Editorââ¬â¢s note: The following is adapted from HCProââ¬â¢s new book Preventing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections: Build an Evidence-Based Program to Improve Patient Outcomes. For more information on this book or any other in our library, visit www. hcmarketplace. com. Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are the most common of all hospital-acquired conditions (HACs).Eighty percent of urinary tract infections (UTIs) result from indwelling urinary catheters, and 12%ââ¬â16% of patients admitted to acute care hospitals may have indwelling urinary catheters at some point during their stay. One of the best ways to reduce the risk of CAUTI is to reduce the use of catheters. So as the organization begins its journey, it must decide which patients truly need indwelling urinary catheters. Which patient populations with which diagnoses or conditions meet criteria for insertion? How can the organizati on reduce the use of catheters? Are both male and female urinals readily available for patients with urinary incontinence? Does the organization have the capability to perform noninvasive bladder scanning to assess post-void residuals? Are there patients who are candidates for intermittent catheterization to manage urinary retention and bladder drainage? These types of questions need to be considered when decisions are made to insert an indwelling urinary catheter to provide bladder drainage. The most effective method for eliminating hospital-acquired CAUTIs is prevention as a result of decreasing the use of indwelling urinary catheters (Robinson et al. 2007). The next best method to reduce infections in patients who meet the conditions for catheter placement is to limit catheter days by evaluating the reasons for continuing the catheter on a daily basis and removing the catheter at the moment patients no longer meet criteria (Saint et al. , 2000; Munasinghe et al. , 2001). Develop a prevention plan When patients do require indwelling urinary catheters, constantly evaluate the need for use and identify other methods for managing bladder drainage whenever possible.Developing a prevention plan for your organization will outline steps for physicians and nurses to use in making these important clinical decisions. The prevention plan must include tools to guide cliniciansââ¬â¢ decision-making regarding the insertion, care, and continuation of indwelling urinary catheters to ensure prevention of CAUTIs in patients admitted for inpatient care. An example of these essential tools is an algorithm for making decisions regarding the insertion, continuation, and removal of urinary catheters and a means of routinely assessing and documenting continued need for the catheter on a daily basis. In addition, evidence-based care must be provided to patients requiring continued catheter use, so a CAUTI bundle is also an essential CAUTI prevention tool for clinicians. Assess pati ents at admission As patients enter your organization, assessments and appropriate actions should be taken regarding patients who are symptomatic for UTIs. Having the appropriate tests completed to be able to document that the patientââ¬â¢s UTI was present on admission (POA) helps save the organization from being held accountable for a CAUTI in cases where the patient presents with a catheter in place or requires catheter placement shortly after admission.Detailed assessments of patients by their nurses during the admission process must be carefully partnered with, and supported by, physician documentation to determine whether a patientââ¬â¢s UTI preceded placement of the urinary catheter and was POA or whether the infection was acquired as a result of the hospital admission and is then considered an HAC. POA conditions are determined with the following criteria: â⬠¢ There must be clear differentiation in the presence of diagnosis/condition at time of admission or developm ent of the problem after admission. â⬠¢ Physician documentation of the condition must exist in the patientââ¬â¢s medical record. If POA, it must be documented concurrently with the physicianââ¬â¢s admission orders. â⬠¢ Primary responsibility for complete and accurate documentation lies with the physician/licensed independent practitioner. â⬠¢ Any incomplete documentation requires provider clarification. Identify risk factors Physicians and nurses must work closely as a team to identify patients at high risk for CAUTI and carefully and accurately document findings in patientsââ¬â¢ medical records. These intraprofessional team members must also share the opinion that the best means of preventing CAUTIs is to reduce catheter use whenever possible.Starting with comprehensive patient histories on arrival is essential to identify patientsââ¬â¢ risk factors for developing a CAUTI or to determine whether they already have a UTI on admission. According to current findi ngs in the literature and a record review of patients with CAUTI, the following are risk factors (Lo et al. , 2008): â⬠¢ Gender (e. g. , women are more likely to have UTIs than men) â⬠¢ Advanced age â⬠¢ History of urinary tract problems (e. g. , enlarged prostate or urologic surgery) â⬠¢ Neurologic conditions (e. g. , spinal cord injury) causing neurogenic bladder problems â⬠¢ Previous UTIs Previous and/or current abnormal voiding patterns â⬠¢ Current catheter history â⬠¢ Incontinence â⬠¢ Comorbid conditions such as diabetes â⬠¢ Immunosuppression In addition, patient assessments must include documentation of any signs and symptoms of UTIs, including: â⬠¢ A frequent urge to urinate â⬠¢ A painful, burning feeling in the area of the bladder or urethra while urinating â⬠¢ A fullness in the rectum (in men) â⬠¢ Suprapubic tenderness â⬠¢ Passing only a small amount of urine â⬠¢ Cloudy or reddish-colored urine â⬠¢ Fever greater than 100. 3? F (38? C) with or without chills â⬠¢ Incontinence â⬠¢ Pain in the back or sideClinicians should remember that not everyone with a UTI develops signs and symptoms. It is important to distinguish between symptomatic and asymptomatic bacteriuria in these hospitalized patients (Tambyah & Maki, 2000). References Lo, E. , Nicolle, L. , Classen, D. , Arias, K. A Review of Zoot Suit, a Book by Luis Valdez
A Review of Zoot Suit, a Book by Luis Valdez In Luis Valdezââ¬â¢s Zoot Suit, the zoot suit has many conspicuous and inconspicuous meanings. The zoot suit is an ostentatious outfit that many Chicano gangsters wore in order to gain recognition of the police and the people of Los Angeles. The boysââ¬â¢ family members believe that the zoot suit symbolizes insubordination while police offers and press view it as delinquency. The boys of the Thirty-eighth Street Gang, who admire the zoot suits, regard the zoot suit as empowering. In the play, there is a clash of opinions as to whether the zoot suit represents power or delinquency. The zoot suit helps many chicano boys of the Thirty-eighth Street Gang identify themselves with the other boys as they face discrimination and aggression from the Downey Gang and police officers. In the beginning of the play, El Pachuco, who is Henry Reynaââ¬â¢s alter ego, expresses his appreciation and passion for the zoot suit. He describes putting on a zoot suit, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦makes [Chicancos] feel real root look like a diamond, sparkling, shinningâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Valdez 1.1.3). Rather than hiding, El Pachuco displays himself as if he is a radiate gem that all can fawn over because he dresses in style, and therefore should commands respect. The zoot suit gives the boys the confidence and swagger to gain esteem from their fellow boys and the Downey gang, a rival group. The boys use the zoot suit as a uniform symbolizing the ideology of a group of individuals fighting for common goal which was Chicano pride. Even more, El Pachuco, who dons the zoot suit, epitomizes the Chicano spirit because he reminds Henry Reyna to not waver from trying to gain respect from the police. In the end, El Pachuco states he is, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the ideal of the original chuco was to look like a diamond to look sharp hip bonarroâ⬠(Valdez 2.6.16). Therefore, the boys looks up to Pachuco as a genuine symbol of what they are fighting for. The boys feel more formidable when the other boys put on the zoot suit because it gives a sense of brotherhood and community. In packs, the boys feel comforted by the numbers but with the zoot suit, the boys feel invincible. In the eyes of the police and the press, the zoot suit is seen as a symbol of misconduct and malice. After the police disperses the barrio dance and Sergeant Smith detains Henry and the rest of the boys who are main culprits of the Sleep Lagoon murder case, Smith interrogates the boys, and sarcastically comments, ââ¬Å"you pachucos are regular tough guysâ⬠(Valdez 1.3.1). By sarcastically insulting the boys for being a bunch of tough guys, Smith is in actuality calling the boys weaklings and therefore, considers the zoot suit powerless and only a symbol of rebellion. Sergeant Smith believes that the zoot suit is just a mere ostentatious attire that makes the boys a target of discrimination. He goes further and declares, ââ¬Å"I hear you pachas wear these monkey suits as a kind of armor. Is that right? How does it work? This is what you zooters need a little old-fashioned discipline (Valdez 1.4.41). Smith again uses name calling instead of properly addressing the boys. The à ¢â¬Å"zooterâ⬠signifies that Smith utterly shuns the zoot suit and thinks its so ridiculous that the boys wear them. He even goes as far as to question the secret powers of the zoot suit as if to play of the boys emotions and taunt the zoot suit further. Clearly, the police dont take the power of the zoot suit seriously. Even the headlines of the Los Angeles newspaper articles ââ¬Å"Zoot-Suited Goons of Sleepy Lagoonâ⬠(Valdez 1.5.15) shows the yellow journalism uses zoot suit in a derogatory term and labeled all Mexicans as Zoot Suits. The press goes further and comments that, ââ¬Å"the Zoot Suit Crime Wave is even beginning to push the war news off the front pageâ⬠(Valdez 2.6.15) in order to reveal to the audience that wearing zoot suits and being seen in them was considered a crime and a rebellious action that cannot be ignored by even the news. The symbol of the zoot suit bring depth to the play as so many different individuals perceive the zoot suit in their own way. For the boys of the Thirty-eighth Street Gang, it defines their group and intentions. By wearing the suit, the boys make a single stance against the oppression and discrimination by the press and the police officials. However, for the press and police officials, the zoot suit only symbolizes the crime and wrongdoing. They believe that the zoot suit only affirms their beliefs that the boys are reckless. The zoot suit is truly a symbol of the disagreement of individuals within the Los Angeles community.

Legal Transplants in Todays Global World Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Legal Transplants in Todays Global World - Essay Example Amidst the debate, one thing is clear - transplanting foreign rules requires extreme caution and thorough consideration because despite the success of early European countries with it, legal transplants are not for everyone. However, with the advent of globalization and the increasing integration of national economies as a result of it, legal transplants have become not only a trend, but a rule at times. As this paper will argue, globalization, as a driving force for economic integration, has influenced the growth of legal transplants and created both formal and informal institutions that are forcing countries to hastily, if not blindly, copy foreign commercial laws with little consideration to the country's culture and historical experience, thus rendering the transplant unsuccessful. Brings laws and legal cultures into more direct, frequent, intimate, and often complicated and stressed contact. It influences what legal professionals want and need to know about foreign law, how they transfer, acquire, and process information, and how decisions are made. This influence takes effect in two ways. ... Triggered by the desire for a better investment climate in their home country and a more market-oriented home economy to aid in their business endeavors, these individuals can pressure local legal professionals to adopt better commercial and economic laws utilized in other jurisdictions. Thus, the increased flow of information brought about by a globalised world can influence those individuals who are directly affected by these laws, who in turn influence the politicians and law makers who supply them. Faced with pressures from those who demand better economic and commercial laws, lawmakers often result to legal transplants because of the simplicity and efficiency of the process of adopting these laws compared to the harrowing course that can take place in creating new ones. A second effect of globalization is the external pressures that come from other countries, international organizations, and trade associations, forcing legal transplants on countries in an effort to create a harmonized world economy. One of the consequences of globalization is the need to harmonize economic laws the world over to facilitate a more efficient global trading environment and create free markets. As a result, international organizations like the World Trade Organization (WTO) force countries, wanting to be members to adopt certain economic laws to foster the country's trading environment. Another international organization, International Monetary Fund (IMF), also forces countries wanting their assistance for loans to adopt certain policies that have been proven effective in most developed countries. In this regard, globalization has effectively created institutions that induce legal transplants, if not force them, on developing countries. Thus, a legal
The relationship between changing of labor force(total labor number ) Research Paper
The relationship between changing of labor force(total labor number ) and Unemployment rate - Research Paper Example A study by Hornstein defined labor force participation as the number of people who are eligible to work. In many countries, a noted in a study by Meyer, labor force is often calculated monthly. Additionally, the same study indicates that when workforce increases, unemployment declines (Meyer). During the economic recession, the unemployment rate rose rapidly, from approximately 4% in 2007 to 10% in 2009 (Conrad). However, since the economies have been improving, the unemployment rate has been reducing gradually. After four years of the recession, unemployment has been at 7% (Conrad). At the same time, participation in the labor force has been declining steadily over the same time. It now stands at 63%, the same level it was in the 1980s. A study by Elmeskov noted that the decline in the labor force participation indicates that the unemployment rate is going to reduce, but slowly. This means that there is a relationship between labor force and unemployment rate. Economic experts predict that if the labor market improves many people who have left their jobs will return and contribute to the pool of the unemployed. In this case, the number of unemployed persons will reduce, and the labor force participation will increase (Elmeskov). A number of studies have demonstrated an adverse correlation between the unemployment rate and the workforce participation (Boesler; Hornstein; Toossi). The authors of these studies argue that when unemployment rate declines, the labor force participation increases. This paper agrees with these studies because indeed, there is a negative correlation between the unemployment and the labor force participation. A study by Hornstein noted that the potential workforce is categorised into three groups. These are the employed, the unemployed, and the inactive workforce. The inactive workforce is individuals who

The Need for Bachelor Prepared Nurses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Need for Bachelor Prepared Nurses - Essay Example Evidently, there are a number of benefits of preparing nurses in this way and therefore society definitely has a need for bachelor prepared nurses. The first important argument for having bachelor prepared nurses is that they may be more capable in dealing with certain patients. This means that people in hospital are less likely to die from preventable causes in the hands of bachelor prepared nurses. Aiken, Clarke, Cheung, Sloane & Silber (2003) found that, in a study of hospitals in Philadeliphia, nurses with a bachelor degree had 5% less patient deaths and failure to rescue incidents than non-bachelor prepared equivalents. This was found even after adjusting for the different illnesses that the nurses were dealing with. Sasichay-Akkadechanunt, Scalzi, & Jawad (2003) found in their large study of nurses in Thailand that in-hospital deaths were reduced when patients were treated by bachelor prepared nurses. Bachelor prepared nurses may also be more qualified in basic scientific knowl edge that can be useful in their career. Thornton (1997) found that nurses who had biological and psychological knowledge from their bachelor degree were more capable and more understanding (as evaluated by co-workers, patients and the nurses themselves). These nurses were also more qualified in dealing with a wide-range of situations. This may be because nurses who had only received minimal training and had more vocational-style education may have had their experience in one or two hospital areas, and therefore were not familiar with a number of the cases in areas where they did not have training. Bachelor preparation covers a lot of ground. Manias & Bullock (2002) found that bachelor prepared nurses also had a superior knowledge of pharmacology, which is inevitably helpful when dealing with patients who need medication. Another benefit to having bachelor prepared nurses is that they can often have a better patient manner and be qualified in a number of different areas, not just be cause of their increased scientific knowledge. White, Coyne & Patel (2001) asked members of the Oncology Nursing Society to specify whether they thought that bachelor prepared nurses were adequate for end-of-life care. Not only did the nurses in the society feel that they had gained enough from their degree that they could apply in this situation, but the general feeling was that patients responded better to these nurses because bachelor preparation includes modules about talking to patients and communication. Patients often prefer and feel safer with nurses with a good bedside manner, and so this is a huge advantage to have in a nurse. There are suggestions that nurses do not need to study in formal education because their career is so practical and essay writing and research are not often used in the profession (Gurney, Mueller & Price, 1997). Although this claim may have some truth to it, in that it recognizes the nature of the profession, there are suggestions that these researc h skills can actually be useful to a nurse. Carroll et al (1997) found that nurses did use research techniques and many used them to find out more about conditions as well as take part in scholarly nursing research. If nurses were only prepared on a vocational basis, they may not have the research skills that a bachelorââ¬â¢

Editing of Video and Sound in the Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Editing of Video and Sound in the - Movie Review Example Videoââ" There are a total of about 30 shots for the 310-second clip, which yields an average shot length (ASL) of 10 seconds.ââ" There were notable long takes (lasting more than 15 seconds), which include :1-:37 (soldier 1 walks in the hallway), :49-1:16 (soldier 2 in the sitting in the toilet), 2:51-3:14 (soldier 3 enters the toilet), 3:20:3:39 (soldier 3 talks to soldier 2) and short takes, such as 3:57-3:58 (gunshot), 3:59-4:00 (close-up shot of soldier 2), 4:55 (soldier 1 shouts), and slow-motion at 3:56-3:58 (soldier falls). The unusually long takes set the contemplative and suspenseful tone of the film. The short takes, meanwhile, emphasize the climactic moments of the sequence and highlight the tension felt by the characters.Soundââ" There was a non-diegetic (off-screen) musical accompaniment which consisted of two musical instruments that played in slow tempo. The dark and high-pitched background music combined with the predominantly quiet diegetic (on-screen) en vironment seemed to warn of an impending tragedy/doom.ââ" Several sound effects including the loading of the magazine (1:09-1:15, 1:47-1:48), the clanking of the rifle (2:15-2:17, 2:23-2:24), the loading of the rifle (2:28-2:31), and gunshots (3:57, 3:56) were included. A deep, moaning sound was heard from 3:57-4:00. Aside from the dialogue and background music, these sound effects were the only type of sound heard in the sequence, which tend to highlight violence and monstrosity.

Event management Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Event management - Case Study Example It involves comparing the actual operations of the organization and the planned operations. If deviations occur, they are accounted for, and the necessary steps taken towards mending the deviations from the plans (Oleg & Plamen, 2010). Human resources refer to the workforce employed by the organizations. It involves all the people employed to work in the organization. Human resource management involves the management of people at work in an organization (Josephat, 2011). The human resources in an organization include wage laborers and salaried workers. They implement the plans of the organization. They are checked for their performance in the controlling process. Logistics involves moving and handling goods. In other words, it entails managing the efficient flow of goods, as well as information from the origin to the point of consumption (Yung-yu & Wen, 2005). Logistics relates to the planning, control, human resource and risk management in that the flow of information or materials is planned for, controlled, are carried out by the human resources. Planning in logistics also entails the aspect of risk management. Risk management involves measures to avoid and mitigate risks. The aim is to prevent loss, reduce loss , and avoid risks and to finance the risks. For example, Edinburg Hogmanayââ¬â¢s risk management will involve avoiding accidents associated with fireworks. It will also entail measures to be taken in case the risk occurs. Firework display involves several risks. One of the risks is tipping over while firing. It becomes dangerous when the fireworks are fired towards spectators. Another risk is the shots going off at the ground level due to immature ignition or other faults (UKFR, 2014). It may cause serious damage to the people, especially if the safety distance is not observed. Part fired fireworks also pose risks. They are those fireworks that are not

Water Provision Methods (Saudi Arabia) Research Paper
Water Provision Methods (Saudi Arabia) - Research Paper Example Water plays a crucial role in the quality of life of the inhabitants, but it is also an important requirement for economic prosperity, for example in a growing industry and in the agricultural sector. Together, both variables will cause a further increase in water demand in Saudi Arabia, which cannot be covered completely through ground water resources as well as the inexistent river systems or lakes (Al-Zahrani & Baig, 2011.p.604). Given the pressing industrial and domestic requirements Saudi Arabia must come up with a reliable and sustainable means of supplying water to its growing population. One of the notable undertakings is the Kingdomââ¬â¢s efforts to sea water desalination. Desalination plants are installed at the coast and water is carried by huge pipeline systems to the major consumption centers in the up-country (Jeffreys, 2011.p.299). The country cannot rely on surface water due to low precipitation and high evaporation rates, this makes surface water scarce. The other option is ground water which comes from the water table statistics indicate that the country draws 45% of its water supply from the water table. This makes Saudi Arabia number one in the world in terms of groundwater withdrawals. Much of this is taken from fossil aquifers, which are not replenished by rainfall or underground water flows (Jeffreys, 2011.p.299). ... There are few chances of expanding production and in real terms, in arid environments the recharge is not significant (Jeffreys, 2011.p.299). Although the cost of well head water is low, the main costs lie in the transfer costs, as in pipelines and pumping stations (Al-Zahrani & Baig, 2011.p.605). The principal aquifers are known, as are some of the areal changes, which affect the porosity, permeability, and transmissivity of the aquifer. Few areas remain which could significantly supplement the aquifer supply (Alsharhan, 2001.p. 138). Water importing might be a sound alternative but is laden with numerous uncertainties and the flow and supply is not solely dependent on Saudiââ¬â¢s decisions and factors. Desalination Desalination of sea water and brackish groundwater is the main alternative adopted in the Kingdom and one that is likely to serve the Kingdom well into the future. At the moment, there are about 32 plants in the Kingdom and plans remain underway to construct additiona l plants to supplement the growing demand of clean water. At the moment, the Kingdom is constructing a megaproject, Ras Al-Khair, which will be the largest desalination plant in the world and is expected to produce 1,037,000m3 of water daily (Al-Zahrani & Baig, 2011.p.604). The biggest challenge in the desalination process is the constant input of energy which the Kingdom has in abundance, but something the Saudi government is also increasingly conscious of using wisely. Desalination already accounts for more than half of the kingdomââ¬â¢s domestic oil consumption, and the demand for water and electricity co-production is growing by 8 percent every year (Ibp USA, International Business Publications, USA 2009.p.126). This is a challenge as oil will always be a precious commodity, and

China's energy technology and how it affects the United States Research Paper
China's energy technology and how it affects the United States - Research Paper Example The Chinese economy have shown remarkable strength and resiliency throughout the economic crisis and has likewise shown significant strength when recovery started to set in. However, the United States remain shackled down by systemic risks since the crisis basically crippled the banking sector of the US. Among the positive contributors to the resiliency of the Chinese economy was the strong domestic demand that has been instrumental in ensuring consumption and therefore economic growth. This has been brought about by the fact that China has the highest population in the world which the Central Intelligence Agency (2011) estimates to about 1.3 billion. On the other end, the United States has over .3 billion which places it at the third spot over the world. Looking at the population alone, it is easy to surmise that these countries are also the most voracious energy consumers in the world. However, the recent acceleration of the Chinese economy has prompted the government to be more se rious in tackling the energy demand of the country. This is a basic necessity since this is a basic requirement for continued economic growth. Hence, it has been a pressing concern for the Chinese to improve their capability to power their economy which includes renewable energy sources from the sun and the wind. Likewise, this has been instrumental in pushing China past the United States in terms of energy consumption (IEA, 2010). Main Body Economic recovery and Energy Sustainability The recovery of the global economy has been coupled by the increased arousal to the reality of global warming. Likewise, the fact that fossil fuels will eventually run out has been increasingly gaining traction on economic, social, political and even in military dialogues worldwide. As a matter of fact, world leaders have inked the Copenhagen agreement in order to lessen emissions from green house gases (World Energy Outlook, 2010). This is a significant agreement since the environmental symptoms of gl obal warming has been growing more severe. Likewise, in order to ensure economic growth and stability, countries would do well to veer away from the traditional power source of fossil fuels. This has significantly boosted demand for renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind energy. More so, the economic growth of China has necessitated additional power producing capabilities. Over the last generation, China has increased its power output by about 53 gigawatts (gw) per year (Campbell 2011). Given the high population and the increasing investments to further grow their economy, China has really stepped up its efforts and investments in renewable energy. According to Wong (2010), China has been significantly pouring funds for renewable energy. Basically, the Chinese hopes to be ahead of the curve when it comes to generating new ways to harness renewable energy as well as to be able to make it available for consumption and actually making its economy able to utilize it. Furt hermore, China has significantly moved away from the coal dependent economy that is, although growing industrially, manufactures only low value goods that are mainly dependent on labor. Nowadays, despite still being a predominantly agricultural economy, China has been re-cast as an advanced economy with an increasingly sophisticated economy coupled by the
Different Thinking Between Generations Essay Example for Free
Different Thinking Between Generations Essay Young people usually think differently than older people. Each generation doesnââ¬â¢t think the same way in their values, their goals, their fears, or their hopes. I always have to argue with my parents when we have different thinking. It seems that older people always think negatively about young peopleââ¬â¢s ideas. They donââ¬â¢t want to change because they have never experienced those ideas in their young life. I sometimes feel uncomfortable and misunderstand my parentsââ¬â¢ thinking. In my idea, each generation has their own thinking about the subject as living together without marriage, studying at school, and living style. Older people are very strict about the topic: living together without marriage, but young people think that is the way to find out the best spouse for their life. For example, a woman was punished if she was caught that living with a man who wasnââ¬â¢t her husband. My parents think that is the bad girl. Everybody stayed away from her because she did the worst things ever in the socialââ¬â¢ standards. Now is different because I think that is normal. Most of my friends are living with their boy/girl-friends in the same house nowadays. In the modern world, young people are more concentrating on finding their perfect half, so they live together before getting married to know each other well. I heard most couples were getting married with people arranged for them in the past. Now, we have freedom in thinking, so young people want to find their best spouses more than living with the person arranged from their parents. The difference in thinking about this subject always makes me to f eel argumentative with my parents. In the past, older people concentrated on studying at school, but young people donââ¬â¢t think they will successful in future by going to school only. For example, my parents and I always have differences in thinking about my studying. They always want me to finish my college quickly and get good grades to find a good job. I tried to convince them that most companies nowadays require more experience than a degree from college. I know the importance of getting business degree which will give me a shot to apply for a large corporation. If I donââ¬â¢t have any experiences in business, I canââ¬â¢t pass the job interview even I have good grade at school. In my parentsââ¬â¢ time, the economy was stable and developed, so most of the companies wanted to hire more people. They cared about quantity more than quality, so they didnââ¬â¢t put many requirements for hiring employers. Now, time changes because the economic is going down to the lowest level. All of the companies are hiring only experienced and skilled employers. That is the reason for me to work and study half and half. My parents donââ¬â¢t realize that and they keep expecting me to finish my study to get a job. That is their only thinking, and we always have a fight every time when my parents talk about this subject, because of the difference in thinking between my parents and me. The biggest difference between young people and older people is living style. My parents and I have different thinking about using money for living. In my parentsââ¬â¢ past, my country had a war and has just gotten independence since 1975. Everybody was poor and starveling, my parents worked hard to earn money when they were very young. They learnt that saving money is very important because they needed to survive during the countryââ¬â¢s hard time. At my time, the country is developing and the society was improved. People make more money than before, but my parents still keep their own thinking that they should save money as much as they can. When I spend money on shopping, hanging out, or playing games, they blame me that I am wasting money. I explained many times that the country is developing, and my parents should spend more money to enjoy their life. They donââ¬â¢t think that is good idea and keep saying to me that I need to save money. In contrast, each generation has difference in thinking from each other in any subject. My parents always remind me to get a good wife and shouldnââ¬â¢t live with other girls if I donââ¬â¢t plan to marry her. They usually complain me that I should study hard and finish my study, and they often warn me to save money. In my opinion, I think differently because my parentsââ¬â¢ thoughts are no longer suitable to the modern world.

Whose Reality Expository Piece Essay Example for Free
Whose Reality Expository Piece Essay Computer gaming and in particular online gaming with games such as World of Warcraft and social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace nowadays are a becoming a massive issue and are taking over millions of peoples realities the world over. Their sense of real or unreal, fact or fiction, and even in some cases right or wrong is becoming increasing blurred or warped by the illusion cast over them by their second lives that it is difficult for them to tell the difference between reality and illusion. See reality is defined as the state or fact of being real, but we as humans have the capacity This is because online, you have greater control over who they are, what they do, etc. Whereas in real life you have little to no control what happens to you e. g. bad things, like deaths. This adds to the appeal of these ââ¬Å"second livesâ⬠because you do have a great deal of control over who you are, what you look like, who you associate with and what you do. There is a fine line between reality and illusion and sometimes, with the help of computer technology that line can become very blurry. This piece will allow you to delve deeper into what reality and illusion are, and the differences between them. Also to have a better grasp on what an avatar and second lives are in regards to online games and forums and also the proââ¬â¢s and conââ¬â¢s of video gaming. A blurred sense of reality is known as an illusion and this can have detrimental effects on many aspects of oneââ¬â¢s life. Reality can be defined as the state or fact of being real, but as humans we have the capacity to perceive or interpret our own realities in many different ways. Some of the ways a blurred sense of reality can have negative effects on a personââ¬â¢s day to day life are that they can become so involved in their online persona that they call other people by their online names, lack of motivation for their real job, among other things. This was the case in Colorado, America where a 34 year old man was fired from his job as a financial planner because he was playing the online fantasy game ââ¬Å"World of Warcraftâ⬠at work. He was so involved in his ââ¬Å"second lifeâ⬠as a superhero on the game that it took over his life. It is clear to see that a strong sense of reality is essential in order to maintain the line between reality and illusion. The lines between reality and illusion can become warped with the aid of avatars and second lives so itââ¬â¢s about finding a balance. An avatar is an online persona created by people for virtual reality games. The appeal of these avatars is that you can make them look however you want e. g. black, white, tall, short, fat, skinny, etc. The goal of these avatars is to boost them or progress through a game via levelling up. So it provides the players with a sense of accomplishment when they grow a level, unlock a new accessory, get a badge, beat a boss, etc. A second life evolves when a player becomes so engrossed in their game playing that it takes over their life and becomes a new life inside their real one, and this is a danger all gamers face: a loss or blurred sense of reality. The difference between reality and illusion can sometimes be so difficult to distinguish between because the line has been blurred so badly. Often due to excessive gaming or networking, or overly motivated gamers who are obsessed with boosting their avatars. The online fantasy game ââ¬Å"World of Warcraftâ⬠has over 13 million players worldwide and over half of them have admitted they have an addiction in a recent online poll. This has taken its toll on them in a variety of ways including their work life, their social life, and not to mention their financial accounts, as you have to keep paying for this particular game monthly. It is all about finding a balance between work and play in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Reality all comes back to the individual person, their reality is based on their perception on the world and their previous life experiences. There should be no duplicate realities, just like there are no two people the same. What my reality is should never be the same as what your reality is. For each person has different, albeit special, beliefs. And these beliefs should be what, over the years, shape our reality to what it is. Not what somebody else says is going on, not what everyone else is doing, but what our heart says is real. So, if they wish to blur their line between reality and illusion with hours upon hours of gaming, avatar obsessions or networking who are we to stop them, because after all, it is their reality.

How Reading Can Benefit Our Knowledge Education Essay
How Reading Can Benefit Our Knowledge Education Essay Proverb says reading is warehouse of knowledge. By reading we can get a number of knowledge and information that is being developed or have evolved though. Anyway, all is never separated from the act of reading. In particular, the student or students for these jobs require them to read. That is read, read, and continue readings. As a hunter of science, the book is a major source of knowledge for them. Hence, reading something that is very important in our lives if we want to succeed in life. There are lots of understanding about the reading by some of the figures. Among Klein, ddk (in Faridah Rahim, 2005: 3) that make the definition of reading includes: first, reading is a process. The point is the information from the text and the knowledge possessed by the reader has a key role in the form of questions. According to Harris and Sipay (1980) described the process of reading as a process for the interpretation of the meaning of the symbols printed or written. In addition, Kenedy (1981) also defines reading as the ability to detect a visual form (graphic symbols that represent the language and the writing or words), connecting it with the form of sound or meaning of the note and then based on past experience, understand and interpret its meaning. For Mohairaini Yusoff (1989), has concluded the process of reading as a complex treatment and cannot be observed. Only two components of the agreed key skills inherent in the reading skills of skills to recognize and condemn the w ords and the skills to understand what is read. Reading is something that should be in our lives as human beings as long as we live on this Gods earth. Reading is the roots strength of an individual, but of a nation and a country. Without someone to read that there would be no knowledge or experience, without the knowledge and experience of how someone is able to govern or to lead a country and family. Therefore, reading is something very important in life if we want to succeed. In addition, reading is a science which is important to us. Many forms of knowledge can be gained by reading habits, but the reading can improve a person thinking and enhance their skills or expertise in any field of endeavor. Reading also benefited as the reading we can fill the free time and with these we will not waste time with things that are not useful as is happening now is like illegal racing activity, loitering, and so forth. In fact, reading can calm the mind and reduce the burden and to read, we can disseminate the knowledge gained from reading to others. Now we can also read and heard through the mass media in our country Malaysia, the ministry tried to set up various programs to encourage people to read because we are Malaysian government is aware that people are not reading less knowledgeable, and this will affect the performance of our country. Among the programs are held at each school talks about the importance of reading to enhance knowledge, sales day books, NILAM program at the school, the programs readers and many programs have been organized. This program is held by the ministry in collaboration with the NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MALAYSIA and also the school. From here we can see the importance of reading to the individual, especially the students and students of higher education. To get a good future they must have a high knowledge and to get the high knowledge they must reading and have reading habits inside them. They must think reading is not just to fulfill their field in their study but they must think reading is to make a knowledge that is really treasure for them. Here we will know the higher education student skill in reading. This means that how they read, for what they read and how they interpret their reading into study or their works. Beside that we also can know the important of reading for the higher education student. How the faculties keep their student in reading habits and what programs that already being handled to keep the student reading. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND The research of mine will be conducted in Universiti Teknologi MARA, Campus Puncak Perdana, Shah Alam. My research scope will be among student of Faculty Information Management (FPM). UITM was establishing on 14 October 1967 by Tun Abdul Razak and by the mid-70s, but at that time the campus was already in full operation. Now UITM have 26 campuses. It is including UITM Campus Puncak Perdana. Campus Puncak Perdana was establish in the year of 2005.There are 3 Faculty in this campus, it is Faculty Information Management, Faculty Account, and Faculty Technology Creative and Artistic. Faculty of Information Management, UiTM, takes pride in being the pioneer in providing professional education to fulfill the manpower need of the country in three very important fields, namely: Information Management, Library Management, and Records Management. Our academic programmes, supplemented by industry attachments, equip graduates with knowledge and skills to take on the challenging demands of managing information in various forms and in various types of organizations. Our graduates become the main driving force for the development of a knowledge-based society, transforming Malaysia into a developed nation, ensuring that the countryà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s rich reservoirs of knowledge are systematically organized, maintained and enhanced for optimum value. To achieve this aim, the programmes consist of the blended components from four main areas: Information Technologies, Professional and Technical Aspects of Information and Records Management, Public Relations, and Usersà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ Needs and Services. To achieve the goal of the Information Management Faculty, the student must active reading and they must have the skill to manage their reading, information, knowledge, information literacy, become the information proficiency and many more. The student must have good reading habits to become the skilled persons. Having good reading habits will make them professional in this field. The students also know how to handle the information from overload because they have skills because of their habits in reading. Although, Faculty of Information Management produces good workers on manage the information and they also produce the librarian. So, here they need to produce a program to increase the reading habits among students. Before they can conduct program, they must have the reading habit. From this they can conduct and handle student and people to have reading habits and they can give their experience on reading habits. PROBLEM STATEMENT Reading habits is very important to students especially student in higher education. They need to read more than other people. This is because students have to read to broaden their knowledge. Not to read just for school assignments, but read to give them knowledge. With this knowledge, they can complete their tasks quickly and have knowledge of their contents. In addition, reading can also prepare students to stand up and speak in front of the class, especially in the presentation works. Without reading difficult for them to speak fluently to describe the contents of their hard work and also to answer questions raised by colleagues and lecturers. Therefore, we have the knowledge to read high. However, the students reading is just to finish their assignment not for keep their knowledge. They think that finish their assignment is more important than reading for knowledge. This can give impact to the students and also to the faculty. This is because the faculty of Information Management wants to produce the workers that have a quality and having knowledge in manages information, without reading is it hard to produce this kind of workers. After the student finish their studies, they will go for works, if they not works as what the employer want this can give impact for Faculty. Employer would dispute the ability faculty in produce are capable students in the world of works. In this field of studies, need the student read more than often because from reading student will know about the management of information and what they need to do. The first problem in this area is lack awareness about the important of reading. Reading habits can give them more knowledge not only in studies but also knowledge about worlds. The second problem is students are always narrowed in reading minds. They can only be read if asked or to complete their assignment. In fact, they prefer to read scientific material about such gossip. The third problem is the limited collection materials in the library and the lack of Internet services. When there are limited collections of materials in the library so students refer to not go to library and also they will read this limited collection and this will occur problem on student reading habits. Lack of using the internet or browsing internet the student will get not enough information and they will get limited information and this will make they have a limited knowledge. The forth problem is student easy to feel bored in reading especially read books and article without any picture. They refer to read the visual form of reading materials. This kind of reading concept would not make the student feel bored easily. Besides that, visual material of reading will help the student to faster remember their readings. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are as follows: To investigate the student awareness about the important of reading. To investigate frequency of student go to library. To investigate the materials of the student often to read and borrowed from library. To investigate the using of the internet by student; is that they use the internet to learn, reading or something else. To investigate is there any program being handle at the faculty to attract the student to go library and read; is it the student attend the program. RESEARCH QUESTION The research questions of this study are as follow: What is the purpose of reading for student? What is the frequency of the student come to library? How often the student come to reading program handle by the faculty and library? How much the materials that student read per day and how many material they borrowed from library? What the material the student often use to read and study; internet or printed materials? SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH The scope of this study is about the reading habits among student of Faculty of Information Management. How important reading habits in order to fulfill the career as a student, need of the student and ths will plays a big rle to produce the quality works and leading to successful academic person. This research is being conduct among student in Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA, campus Puncak Perdana. The scope of this study are limited to two main areas, which is the contents of the study that is base on the title and the location of the study which is I have chose in Faculty of Information Management Campus Puncak Perdana, UITM, Shah Alam. The study of this research covers several elements. The elements are how often student go to library to make a reading for them self, how much materials they read per day, what kind material they read, and their ability in reading. The respondents for this study comprises of the students in Faculty Information Management and in this faculty there are four courses, IM220 (Library Science Management), IM221 (Information Systems Management), IM222 (Records Management), and IM223 (Resource Centers Management). This faculty located at University Teknologi MARA, Campus Puncak Perdana, Seksyen U10, Shah Alam. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK Independent Variable Dependent Variable Reading Skill Reading Habits Material Library services Reading Habits Program FIGURE 1: THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK RELATIONSHIP INDEPENDENT VARIABLES AND DEPENDENT VARIABLES The conceptual framework indicates the relationship which consists of the dependent and independent variables. The framework denotes the four variables which causes to single variable which were affected by the independent variable. Reading habits is dependent variable, variance in which to be explained by the four independent variables which are reading skill, materials, library services, and reading habits programs. The independent variables in this case are reading habits skills, materials, library services, and reading habit programs. Thus, it is very important of the reading habits in produce the good future and ability in works, also can make a higher knowledge. On the other hand, the dependent variable is the reading habits. It can be seen clearly that the independent variables have influenced the dependent variable. This research indicate and elaborate clearly that the reading skill, materials, library services and reading habit programs in student life as an independent variables that will affect and support the student life, works and student futures by having the reading habits among themselves as a dependent variables. OPERATIONAL DEFINITION Reading Habits According to North Regional Education Laboratory, definition of reading is, for many years, three basic definitions of reading have driven literacy programs in the United States (Foertsch, 1998). According to the first definition, learning to read means learning to pronounce words. According to the second definition, learning to read means learning to identify words and get their meaning. According to the third definition, learning to read means learning to bring meaning to a text in order to get meaning from it. But, according to the free dictionary, reading is the act or activity of one that reads. The definition of habits according to dictionary.com is, habits are an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary: the habit of looking both ways before crossing the street. Habits also can be define as a particular practice, custom, or usage, a dominant or regular disposition or tendency; prevailing character or quality. From both definition we can understand that reading habits is the act or activity of one that reads acquired behavior pattern as regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.

My Philosophy of Education Essay -- Teaching Education Teacher School
My Philosophy of Education My philosophy of education and my personal goals and theories about how students are empowered through their educational experience revolve around the student-centered, interactive approach to instruction and learning. My goal as an educator is to create a learner-focused environment that promotes the basic literacy skills - reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking. Children are readers, writers, and thinkers who need language to question and understand. They become members of literate communities using language in real ways for real purposes. Through my own classroom research, I have learned to listen to children, to observe the multitude of ways in which they learn, and to examine the elements that encourage their growth. Each day must be devoted to writing, reading, and interacting with literature. Children learn to read by reading. They learn to write by writing. Listening to and talking about literature enhances both processes. Children learn to think, to question, to reflect on what they write, read, and listen to in a classroom that allots a significant amount of time to the interaction and practice of these skills. Children make choices as to what to read, what to write, and how to approach a task. These children who make their own decisions take ownership of their learning and are better able to make meaning within their world. Teacher responses play a critical part in this environment by asking questions to stimulate thinking, and children become adept at generating their own questions and seeking answers. Peers also learn to make enabling responses in a literate community. Children need and deserve these responses; as well as, they need to hear the ideas o... ...ncourages children to be able to use their learning skills of various disciplines and put to use these skills acquired. Also, it helps children in solving and resolving age appropriate challenges. In doing this, one hopes to instill confidence and foster the child?s ability to see how all aspects of education build up the learner equipping him/her with the necessary knowledge to more forth in education as well as life. I believe that a teacher should be able to wear many hats with success. We must address each student as an individual and adjust the method of teaching to accommodate the child?s capacity to learn. Building up the student and providing him/her with all the necessary skills of reading, writing, and problem solving will foster and stimulate further learning. The student will ultimately benefit as a productive learner and member of society.
Ancient Civilizations :: History
While reading chapter one in our text book, I learned about the ancient civilizations that are no longer around. I noticed how different their cultures were from ours today. However, those are the foundations of who we are. Starting with the Paleolithic people, they were the groundwork for all humankind. Life for them was basic and simple. They didn?t wake up and wonder what they were going to wear. The men were hunters and gatherers, and the women were caregivers and producers. That is a theme relevant to even today. (men being dominant, etc?). As I read on, humans began to evolve after years and years. Soon humans were able to build structures using the post and lintel system. It seems the more we evolved the more we learned, and the more survival of the fittest played a part in the development of humans. I found the story of Gilgamesh very interesting. The fact he was seeking immortality but unable to attain it, represent humans always wanting things they can?t have. This is something everyone can relate to. It also incorporated the flood/ark part which I thought might have a connection with Noah?s ark ? especially since the time periods were very similar. One thing that sparked my curiosity, was how all of the ancient civilizations used hieroglyphics or symbols to communicate in writing. Today, many countries and cultures do not. They use the letters for their words and phrases. In fact, hieroglyphics is not really used in any place. The closest thing is probably Hebrew and Arabic which were derived from the ancient civilizations. Although not in America so much, religion is still a prevalent factor in cultures today just like they were in Egypt and Babylon. The old Kingdom had a very interesting method of ?judgement.? The Book of Dead was the evaluation was a huge part of their lives. Similar to our judgments found in some religions today. I think the middle kingdom was a time to learn and discover new theories and methods and time to figure out what works and what doesn?t. Prince Mentuhotep II was the leader and reunited Upper and lower Egypt. This was a great accomplishment because it brought peace and enabled the culture to prosper. The impression I got from the Old Kingdom to New, was that the old kingdom maintained traditions in the books.

Analysis of Marketing Techniques used by American Express :: GCSE Business Marketing Coursework
Analysis of Marketing Techniques used by American Express American Express continues to attempt to expand its customer base, while at the same time trying to keep its reputation as a card of status. Its successful marketing tactics in the United States compared to the slow expansion into markets abroad show its lack of consideration of the differences of these markets. By preparing a more decisive plan as to what type of consumers to target and what products to push in each of its market areas, American Express could have a much greater success with foreign expansion. American Express has been known as a commodity to most business travelers. In order to build its customer base, other consumers need to see the card as an indispensable convenience in their lives. American Express offers convenient methods to obtain account information, pay bills, find discounted products, and even make travel plans via the Internet. The Internet site offers these options, as well as other services, such as on- line help and assistance for small businesses. American Express realizes the need for many consumers to save time and money, but to still feel important and respected. The ingenuity and thought put into the services offered on the web site shows that American Express is genuinely concerned with the satisfaction of its customers. American Express has always been known for its benefits to travelers. Some of the new travel discounts; such as the ââ¬Å"Bahamas Getawayâ⬠packages offer significant discounts for planning a vacation in the Bahamas through a travel agent. The catch is that one must charge it on the American Express card to get the discounts. Coupon books that offer discounts at many shops, restaurants and attractions are given to those who buy a package. Over $11 million in ââ¬Å"Bahama Getawayâ⬠packages were sold in 1999. Other getaway packages are available to consumers all over the world. American Express has successfully used this marketing strategy, as it realized that consumers want an opportunity to enjoy an exotic vacation, while at the same time, getting value for their dollar. Saving money is important to most consumers. Once again, American Express aims to please its customers. With these successful ventures, it is difficult to imagine that American Express is struggling in many parts of the world.

Persistent organic pollutants
Sum up your article and back up the importance of that subject with informations from the CDC Statistics site, sooner, or other relevant high-quality beginnings used by public wellness professionals.Persistent organic pollutants ( POPs ) such as polychlorinated biphenyls ( PCBs ) are manmade organic chemicals that remain in the environment for old ages or decennaries ( U.S. EPA, 2008 ) . POPs are ever-present chemical compounds that stays in the environment and bio-accumulate through the nutrient web. Although research have shown that POPs triggers the proliferation of human malignant neoplastic disease cell. a new physiologically based pharmacokinetic ( PBPK ) patterning system was developed by research workers that can probably be used in epidemiologic surveies to make lifetime toxicokinetics of POPs. Prior biological appraisal was limited to mensurating the POP degrees in blood or tissue samples collected when chest malignant neoplastic disease is foremost diagnosed. Consequently, the new theoretical account combines the appropriate procedures of ââ¬Å"absorption, distribution, metamorphosis, and riddance to gauge lifetime blood and tissue exposure and degrees during any hypothesized clip window of susceptibleness in chest malignant neoplastic disease developmentâ⬠( Mead, n.d ) . to boot, the PBPK theoretical account besides imagine how different types of important lifetime physiologic alterations ââ¬Å"such as organic structure weight fluctuation, gestation, elimination of POPs through lactation, and aging will act upon the dynamicss of a compound in a adult female throughout her lifeâ⬠( Mead, n.d ) . therefore, the theoretical account facilitate the rating of inter-individual differences in POP exposures through the usage of physiologic information obtained from questionnaires in the epidemiologic surveies ( Mead, n.d ) .What is the importance of Persistent organic pollutants ( POPs ) with informations from the CDC StatisticsSome POPs are tox ic ; others are non. Toxic POPs are of particular concern because they frequently remain toxic for decennaries or longer. The more relentless a toxic chemical is, the greater the chance for human exposure over clip. Because they circulate globally long after being released into the environment, POPs are frequently detected in locations far from the original beginning ( U.S. EPA, 2008 ) . The effects of single congeners are hard to find since most people are exposed to mixtures of several congeners. However, overall wellness effects include liver upsets, foetal hurt, porphyria ( a status ensuing in unnatural metabolic map ) , elevated lipid degrees, chloracne, hormonal alterations, neurologic harm, and immunogenic alterations. Dioxin congener TCDD ( 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin ) is the most toxic signifier of dioxin, which is classified as a known human carcinogen. Harmonizing to Patterson, et Al, ( 2009 ) the dioxin entire toxic equivalency ( TEQ ) , for persons 12 old ages of age and older was 30.9 pg/g lipoid ( with a 95 % assurance interval ( CI ) between 28.2 and 33.9 pg/g lipid ) , and 37.8 pg/g lipoid ( with CI between 35.3and 43.4 pg/g lipoid ) , consequently utilizing the 2005 toxic equivalency factors ( TEFs ) . Therefore, the entire TEQ raised significantly with increasing age at both 90th and 95th percentiles. Take the job addressed in the article you found and use each of the three theoretical accounts ( p. 23 in Environmental Health ) to your job. How do the different theoretical accounts change the attack that would be taken to decide the job? Be certain to give illustrations of how each theoretical account would use to your peculiar subject. The ends of the clinical intercession theoretical account is for physicians to seek to forestall the disease from taking to decease ( p.22 ) . The clinical intercession theoretical account challenge lies in placing which patients are more open to higher than mean degrees of POPs and patients who would hold to cut down their exposure by altering their diet and behavioural wonts. While the public wellness intercession theoretical account are developed to forestall the development of the disease from the general population. And environmental stewardship theoretical account should be aimed at protecting the persons by forestalling the environmental want and its resulting impact on wellness ( Moeller, 2005, p.22 ) .Mentions:Moeller, D. Discuss the Importance of Dreams Essay
wipeout of a Sales valet was a contact written by Arthur milling machine in 1949. It is a story of an ordinary man and his familys struggle for success in America, the land of opportunity. The American day-dream is the concept that ace can take in sustenance with nothing and destroyed hard work and confidence do good power, wealth and status. The effect of this line on the play is to blur the line between prehistorical and present a little, let the audience feel some of Willy confusion. It also creates a sense of danger as to whether his secret will be exposed. Biff and Happy do not experience the aforesaid(prenominal) degree of intensity in their dreams, provided Happy shares the tendency to misinform with his father, for example when he is in the restaurant with Stanley, he tells a girl that Biff is one of the greatest football players in the clownish. The grandeur of dreams to the play is emphasised by stage directions and staging, and the non-linear temperament of the play. The Lomans house has no solid skirts, and the apartment buildings can be seen through the back of the house. The apartment buildings interpret the dete rioration of the quality of life that came with change magnitude urbanisation, and Willy complains approximately them close to the beginning with the way they boxed us in here. Bricks and come alongdows, windows and bricks. The visible light around the Lomans house is described as an angry glow of orange and gives it an atmosphere of the dream.I think that Miller is attempting here to machinate the set search menacing and surreal, like a nightmare which steadily worsens. To further this impression, the imaginary wall lines serve as a fomite for the characters (namely Willy) dreams. When the characters are in the present, they enter through the doors, scarcely during flashbacks they step through the walls, letting the audience know that this is unreal. Other devices apply to signal a flashback are the piecemeal fading in of voices from the past, and in the memories of happier quantifys, the pinch. The flute is an instrument symbolic of nostalgia and originates from Willys rural, happier childhood. As the time period of the play jumps from past to present with memories and fantasies, it gives the effect of a stream of consciousness rather than a recital play. Consequently, Death of a Salesman could be interpret as Willys train of thoughts jumper lead up to his death. In real time all the parts of the play which are not dreams the play is the last cardinal four hours of Willys life. The flashbacks are repress against real time and the effect of them is first of all to delineate the plays structure, and second to concentrate the audiences watchfulness on both what will happen to the characters and what did happen in the past to inning them into the way they are now. Willy is only rattling happy in his memories or when, as Happy says, hes feel forward to something, but this is only his absurd hope showing through. He spends so untold time absorbed in his memories because in the present he is a failure it isnt satisfactory.Additionally, we c annot even be sure that the past happened like that as what we are seeing is Willys memory, which whitethorn well be distorted to turmoil with his perfect image of the past. This is likely, because even in his memories Willy lies to Linda about his income Well, I I did about a hundred and eighty megascopic in Providence. Well, no it came to roughly cardinal hundred gross on the consentient trip Linda knows he exaggerates, and later on she even reveals she knows that he borrows gold from Charley so it looks like his salary, but she n eer questions him because she believes it would affront him.The effect of this maintained secrecy is first of all to show how fragile Willys amiable state is, and secondly the plight of Linda, who also suffers silently, we find later on, with the knowledge of Willys suicide plans. She is keeping up the frontage for the sake of her family and perhaps she thinks she can take in herself into believing everything is all right. Although unspoke n for much of the play, this is Lindas way of creating a fantasy as opposed to her unsatisfactory life. The wideness of the American Dream in Death of a Salesman is very significant. The Lomans are each(prenominal) affected in their own way by the pressures placed upon them by the indian lodge they live in. Willy is not ruthless lavish to be able to unfeignedly make it in the business world, but distorts humans to convince himself that all is well. Biff is pressured by Willys high expectations of him and his insistence that Biff has greatness, yet he says himself that I dont fit in business and all he really wants to do is work in the plain with your shirt off.It is ironic that, in the land of opportunity, citizens are qualified from attaining their true ambitions (Biffs idyllic dream) by the pressures placed on them to become wealthy, prosperous and popular. Happy has a relatively even job unlike his father and pal, but it lacks status. He is one of two services to the a ssistant buyer, and so feels the need to lie and exaggerate about business, women, his family and so on. Linda is not at one time pressured by the American Dream, but suffers because her family are all affected, particularly Willy who she remains trustworthy to throughout.Biff is the only character who ever questions the American Dream and rejects Willys ambition. He is at first deluded by Willys insistence that Biff, youve got greatness in you but comes to realise that he is nothing special. At Willys funeral, he condemns Willys ambition with he had the maltreat dreams. All, all wrong. Exasperatingly, Happy still hasnt attached up, and vows to achieve the success Willy couldnt He fought it out here, and this is where Im gonna win it for him. This shows the vicious circle of disappointment and licking and a parallel between this and pass nightmares that can be created by the dreary side of capitalism and of the American Dream. capitalism and consumerism are massive parts o f the American Dream. The capitalist system of business means that when people are no prolonged useful they are fired, which is exactly what happens to Willy. Howard, his boss, symbolises the ruthless businessman who does well in capitalism. He is similar to Ben, Willys successful brother who will step all everyplace anyone to compact what he wants.Bens ruthless nature is shown when he trips Biff in a play fight suddenly comes in, trips BIFF, and stands over him, the point of his umbrella poised over BIFFS eye. The jut of consumerism is shown in the goods that Willy buys, only to have divide down shortly afterwards, and in the importance of advertising to Willy Whoever heard of a battle of Hastings refrigerator? Once in my life I would like to own something directly before its broken Im always in a race with the junkyard I just finished paying for the car and its on its last legs The refrigerator consumes belts like a goddam maniac. They time those things. They time them so when you finally pay for them, theyre used up. Willy here expresses his dissatisfaction with capitalist culture connected with the American Dream and how products are designed (in his view) to bleed as much money from the consumer as possible. The complaint has an air of unfamiliarity with the culture Willy is idealistic and has a running fantasy that people are far-off less ruthless than they really are, and that they should make an exception for him due to his popularity and his well-connected father.
Gilgamesh and Odyssey Essay
Gilgamesh is an antediluvian poem that importantly marked its name as someway organism the first major heroic narrative in the world literature. Fractions of this literature were discovered uniquely shape in launching pads even before the Ro earthly concern, Hebrew and Grecian civilization appe bed. Gilgamesh depicts a unique and propinquity business kinship of Gilgamesh and his accessory Enkidu that transcribed a manifold and touching gist of chemical bonds of fri barricadeship, of the pursuit for prominence and of the enduring and go severally(prenominal)ess attempt to escape demise, of which considered to be the common raft of hu universe. On the other hand, Odyssey, an epic trading floor by homing pigeon, is concerned on the idyllic events proceeded after a war and mainly on the signifi butt jointt generate of the heroes who survived the war. The main subject of this written epic knead in some sort focus on the enduring, drawn-out submit of one of the hero es named Odysseus of Ithaca, whose mickle is to amble in vague seas for ten age before he returned to his jumpy exponentdom. This paper will provide detailed and comp comparison between the two main characters from two epics Gilgamesh and Odyssey. want, goals, self-control, feel, outside influences, behaviors and personal and social consanguinitys will parcel out as points of comparison being grasped in this paper. Motivation and Goals Gilgamesh, as describe in the transcription, was provided with bizarre and astounding strength, endurance, and beauty by his divine and great creator. He is portrayed to be more of a matinee idol than a benevolent being. These characteristics of him profoundly surpass completely serving all throughout his journey, a journey that significantly paved the greatest aspiration that probably mankind would permit wanted how to escape the usual fate of the human being race ladder.Simply, Gilgamesh wanted to run away from ending and ha ve dateless livelihood. unity of the tablets inscribed the unmixed dialogue between Gilgamesh and Utanapishtim (The Distant One). Utanapishtim is descriptively the wisest man who ever lived. Gilgameshs search for eternal life led him to ask Utanapishtim the greatest question, how to escape the universal fate of mankind? On a tablet transcribing such meeting, Gilgamesh apparently questions Utanapishtim of how did the latter join the ranks of the gods and chance eternal life, though Gilgamesh described him not incompatible physically indifferent and yet his eart drained of competitiveness spirit. And as response to the wondering question of Gilgamesh, Utanapishtim told him the report card of the flood. Utanapishtim profoundly stated that he was commanded to clear a boat to save anyone from the wrath of a devastating flood made by a god named Enlil, the chief god living on earth to wipe out human race. This invention someway illustrates events similar to the biblical script Noahs Ark. The penalizement to human race by Enlil gave Utanapishtim the fortune to have eternal life. Gilgameshs greatest movement though was bringing back to the human race this untold and unknown account statement.Gilgamesh, by some substance, got take hold of a plant that can likely consort rebirth to those who eats it, precisely unfortunately, a ophidian stole it from him. With greater wisdom, Gilgamesh returned to Uruk knowing that only the gods are immortal. The goal of set nearing im death rate is what made two Gilgamesh and Odysseus, from Homers epic Odyssey, distinct and divergent with each(prenominal) other. Unlike Gilgamesh, whose goal is to seek and find answers on how to become immortal, Odysseuss goal, on the hand, is merely the event that he wants to find his way back sign after a languish and bloody war.During his tour towards internal, several temptations tested his mental qualities and physical survival of the fittest. Circe disco biscuited him the white lotus roseola that endows forgetfulness of home and family. The greatest temptation up to now is offered by the goddess fairy-slipper, whom he spent his heptad years with immortality. Instead of accepting such promising offer of immortality, he in some way denied such and lull chooses the human conditions in spite of struggles, difficulties, disappointments and even its foreseeable death.Odysseuss motivational force that drives his willingness to go back home is his married woman, Penelope. Self-control Gilgamesh was first described as a queen regnant without self-control, rash and violent. People of Uruk, his kingdom, often complained closely his absence of self-control towards shelliveness to the Sumerian gods. delinquent to this aggressiveness, the gods created Enkidu as balance wheel to Gilgamesh. But surprisingly, both Gilgamesh and Enkidu became outflank of friends they fought together in every battles and wars, and found in each other the true compani on they both sought. In an event where both took an adventure to seek universal fame and immortality pictures out the harsh and uncontrollable conquest to the gods overwhelmingly end the curtain to Enkidu. Enkidus death and his persisting and sole journey to seek immortality seduce personal transformation. This change and transformation broaden his light towards greater acceptance and recognition of reality and mans mortality. On the other hand, Odysseus has extreme moxie of self-control. Within the epic story, his remarkable self-control was described and admired.Again, during his adventures on the voyage home, his mental abilities and his physical endurance were tested. Instances occurred that tempted him to descend from his struggle towards home. A Lotus flower is said to suggest forgetfulness of home and family. Circe, goddess of magic, offered a enjoyable life in the island of Lotus eaters. In the Phaeacia, he once offered the love and marriage of a boyish princess. Calyp so is an immortal goddess whom Odysseus spent his life with for seven years offered the some significant and approximately bid proposal, which probably all of mankind cannot resist.Calypso offered eternal life for Odysseus that will contri barelye him immortal. But all of these temptations were single-handedly denied by Odysseus as he prefer more to be mortal and be human amidst varied struggles, disappointments and the predictable end called death. Self-control cogency be a struggle for every man, but if every man has the drive to hold on to their will and embrace limitation, it will never be too late or too inconceivable to resist and deny any temptations. PrideThe story of Gilgamesh started out as depiction of his arrogance of business office. Because of his exceptional capabilities endowed to him by his divine creator, his egotism of power endangered the relationship between mankind and the Summerian gods. To end Gilgameshs arrogance and injustices, gods then created En kidu. His arrogance and pride concerning his power and unusual capabilities were continuously tested all throughout their journey in quest of rejuvenation of life and immortality. But then again, as mentioned prior the previous section, after Enkidus death changed his perceptual experience not only towards mans mortality but also the perception of one-self. One of the most significant limitations that Odysseus possesses is his pride which Odysseus had much. Part of the story in some manner depicted Odysseuss pride, particularly on the daphnia island. When Odysseus and his men escaped safely from the island, Odysseus surprisingly brags and boasts around his exploit. water flea heard him and tossed huge rocks into the ship and some almost sing the ship.Effect of circumstances environ the character There are several away influences that bounds and appropriates the transformation of the once-known exacting and violent king of Uruk. Due to the egoistic personality of Gilgamesh, it resulted to the discontentment and complaints from his spate in which Summerian God interfered. The effect of these external events somehow paved a new path towards the boilers suit impacts of Gilgameshs journey that led to his transformation from an arrogant king to a more unselfish and wisdom-filled individual.another(prenominal) circumstance that greatly affected the character is the death of his hypothetical and destined enemy, Enkidu. Enkidu was a god-like mortal created by the gods intended to end Gilgameshs injustices and arrogance. Both somehow became friends and found a true and deep bond of friendship with each other. Death of his friend allowed him to solely seek answers for mankinds immortality, which led him to his astonishment that there should no more battle to be fought and needs answers not surpassing violent circumstances. His continuous journey to seek answer guided him to Unatapishtim, the manufacturer One who could answer Gilgameshs wonderings, and which that this Divine One is blessed with immortality and abundance from the gods. Their conversation drew in new and significant events of the Divine One that gave him ageless mortality. This occurrence surprisingly influenced and changed Gilgameshs perception on mans mortality and broadens his acceptance to reality. Odysseuss journey back home from the Trojan contend somehow had endowed circumstances that might affect his own beliefs and characteristics. For example, when tempted by different immortal goddesses, most especially on the offering by Calypso to have everlasting and unending existence, he still grasps tightly to his humanity and instead chose to be human than immortal. His faith and dedication somehow proved that every obstacles and disappointments can be surpassed if he is optimistic large to exceed and outdo every ounce of it. Behaviors In the beginning of the story, Gilgameshs subservient behavior is steered by his own self-contentment and self-sufficiency.Arrogant, vi olent, harsh, and no self-control are opportunism behaviors and characteristics being affixed to the king, in which all these overt doors to discontentment and dissatisfaction from people. Gilgameshs behavior guided him to destruction. This ego-centric manner blinded Gilgamesh from reality that his conscious tried to make him see. For an instance, Gilgamesh tried to strike down on Ishtar during their here and now adventure to Cedar Forest with Enkidu. Ishtar cannot handle Gilgameshs harsh rejection and provoked to send the Bull of promised land against the people of Uruk.Although they succeeded, it brought terrible damage to his kingdom and brought about the painful death of Enkidu. Unlike Gilgamesh, who is depicted as ego-centric individual, Odysseus has the contrast of this characteristic. Odysseus is optimistic and altruistic as he struggles not only for his own survival during the war, but also for his shipmates personal survival. Odysseus is described having versatility whic h either way compliments his physical strength and courage in battle, skills he destineed during the war at Troy. These behaviors somehow resulted from his eagerness to return home to his wife and from his effort to preserve and finish the heroic reputation and self-worth that he won in war at Troy. The same scene that illustrated Odysseus pride also depicts his wangle and being concerned to his familiar shipmates. After Cyclops threw boulders to the ship, Odysseus hastily gave his identity to Cyclops and the latter called Poseidon, his father, to punish Odysseus who brought harm to him. That incident hurt Odysseus more than losing his fellow men. This showed Odysseuss heed towards his fellow shipmen.Personal and tender Relationships The Gilgamesh poem depicted not only ancient Mesopotamian myths and legends, but also endowed diverse and complex relationships and dealings between people involved in the epic story, particularly the main character, Gilgamesh. Gilgameshs relation ship towards his people as a king is somehow in deep and shaky condition. There have been misunderstandings and lack of sense of unity between the king and its people that hindering a kingdom to lucubrate due to Gilgameshs disturbing and arrogant means of ruling Uruk. Another unstable relationship is with Gilgamesh and the Summerian gods.Gilgamesh tends to oppress the gods which led to the creation of Enkidu. Although Enkidu was created as a counterweight of Gilgamesh, unpredictably, both became friends. Relationship between the king and the supposed enemy is probably the most light and capable relationship made by Gilgamesh. They think of each other as brothers and a true companion in which their common journey indeed deepened their kindly bond and friendship. There are also different relationship build all throughout the story between Odysseus and other characters in the epic.Again, he built a strong and deep bond and comradery with his fellow men. He even risked himself just to suffer other from falling in the hands of Cyclops. Odysseus somehow has heart of gold for those who treasure him and appreciate him from his doings. His relationship with his wife, Penelope, also is as strong and sturdy as a diamond which no one can break even through rough and long times of being away from each other. To show his commitment and love to his wife, he even tricks his wifes suitors and disguised himself as beggar.
